Ruido is our new music feature, where we ask different individuals from our scene to put together a playlist with ten of their favorite songs and explain why they picked each, giving us an insight into their minds when there’s noise.
Our second guest is none other than the legend himself Cam Zink.
- Gang Starr – Code Of The Streets: This is one of my all-time favorites. I first heard it in Thrasher, the video game, when I was a kid. I ran this in my second run at Rampage, so now it’s extra special for life.
- Ray Charles – Busted: I hate sad songs… so I like this one as my one sad song to make me feel good when I’m having a bad day because it’s so upbeat but puts it in perspective that it can always be worse.
- Tears For Fears – Everybody Wants To Rule The World: I’ve been having the best mornings ever riding my bike to surf while listening to this song. Also, it’s from Travis Parker’s segment in “Lame”–one of the sickest snowboard seggies.
- The Notorious B.I.G. – I Love The Dough (feat. Angela Winbush & Jay-Z): Classic Biggie and Jay. It gets me hyped. If I feel like going for an extra-long ice bath, this is the song.
- Hank Williams, Jr. – All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight: It gets me so amped up to do anything from riding to drinking beers.
- Souls Of Mischief – 93 ‘Til Infinity: My all-time favorite song since I was in middle school. I rode to it in the only X Games Slopestyle opportunity. I quali’d third, but blew it in finals… Not their fault so I still love the song.
- As I Lay Dying – Nothing Left: Best live show and mosh pit I’ve ever been to. I’m not sure there is any song or band that makes me feel more like running through a wall.
- INXS – Don’t Change: I originally heard this in “Ultimate Sessions”, an old-school surf film. It’s one of my all-time favorites and what I originally wanted to use for my latest “Washed Up” edit.
- The Bouncing Souls – True Believers: From “Stand and Deliver”, a snowboarding film I loved as a kid. It’s guaranteed to put me in a good mood and rip.
- PNAU – Go Bang: All-time favorite boating song. Lake Tahoe summer slapper.
- Against Me! – I Was a Teenage Anarchist: I got to swing from the rafters when they played at the Monster Quebec Slopestyle contest and I got to meet the band after. I requested it for Paul Bas and I’s segment in TGR’s Accomplice. I’m stoked they ended up using it for the girls’ segment in Esperanto.
- Death – Politicians In My Eyes: This became the anthem for my property and all the work we put in out there. It gets me amped up.
- Adolescents – Kids of the Blackhole: Another snowboard favorite from Terje’s segment in “Simple Pleasures”.
- Curren$y – Hustlers: ‘Bout as slow as I like, but vibes through the roof.
- T.I. – Top Back: High-school days just living like a hoodlum to this all the time.
- Green Day – Jaded: Guaranteed to get you fired up. It was also on my Rampage playlist.
- Silverstein – Bankrupt: I rode to this during Whip-Offs last year in Whistler on my last run, and it felt like one of the greatest moments of my life at the time. It’s also from my friend Albee Layer’s submission for surf edit of the year last year.
- Whitey Morgan and the 78’s – Sinner: Whitey has been so awesome in letting me use his music for various edits. He rides mountain bikes and was one of my favorite country artists even before I knew he rode. This song rips!
- Main Event – The Fire Inside Me: One of my all-time favorite bands and songs. I used it on my X Games Real MTB bronze segment. I actually teared up when Jeremy Grant sent me the first cut… I absolutely love it, and it helped get me my only X Games medal. Also, the band is comprised of supercross racers, supercross announcers, moto mechanics, and a speed and style X Games champ… including Daniel Blair, Vincent Blair, Cliff Campbell, Producer Joe, and Mike Mason. Same crew as the Main Event Moto podcast.
- September 87 – Bad Dream Baby: A rad find from my brother. Instant classic.
